Why do you need to have your pool inspected?
Pools should be fun, but more importantly, they should be safe. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death for Australian children under five. In the majority of cases, these drownings were caused by non-compliant safety barriers.
Pool and spa safety barrier inspections are important because they make sure that your family is safe from pool accidents. Our goal is to ensure that your pool is safe so that you and your family can enjoy it without any worries.
Pool and Spa Inspection Regulations
In 2019, the Victorian Government introduced new laws that require every swimming pool and spa safety barrier to be examined by an approved inspector every four years. Pool and spa owners must register their pool or spa with their local council and submit a Certificate to Compliance to show that their barrier has been inspected.

How does the inspection process work?
The inspection process is simple – follow these four easy steps to get you pool or spa inspected:

The first thing you need to do is contact your local council to register your pool or spa. You’ll receive a letter from them with information about when your inspection needs to be completed, based on the age of your pool.

Once you have that information, you can get in contact with us and we’ll arrange your inspection – usually within a couple of days. The inspection generally takes less than an hour.

If your pool is compliant, you’ll receive your Certificate of Compliance within a day or two. You can lodge this certificate with your local council.

If your pool doesn’t comply, we’ll provide you with a detailed report letting you know exactly what needs to be done. You’ll then have 60 days to complete the work and have the pool re-inspected.
When does your pool or spa need to be inspected by?
The deadline for inspection depends on when your pool or spa was constructed:
- For a swimming pool or spa constructed on or before 30 June 1994, a Certificate of Compliance must be
lodged by 1 June 2021. - For a swimming pool or spa constructed between 1 July 1994 and 1 May 2012, a Certificate of Compliance must be
lodged by 1 June 2022. - For a swimming pool or spa constructed between 1 May 2012 and 31 May 2020, a Certificate of Compliance must be
lodged by 1 June 2023.
If you fail to have your pool or spa inspected by these deadlines, you could face fines from your local council.
